National Network, Local Impact
Having just attended a GBHEM Loans & Scholarships Committee meeting, it really reinforced the impact of scholarships. A survey was conducted and here are just a couple quotes that were returned from students on the power of a scholarship:
It breaks my chain of poverty. I will never be the same person again with the education that I received.
It secured my connection to The United Methodist Church.
It kept me involved in the local campus ministry, in which I have participated in various events to help spread God’s word.
The advantage of giving through GBHEM is you receive the benefit of a national network of invested funds and higher education connections. But the impact is local! It’s students in your church that we support to become leaders and head off to college or feel the call to ministry to attend seminary. It’s real people who break the chain of poverty or serve God through campus ministries and through your church!
We have developed online resources to establish a Scholarship Sunday. On Scholarship Sunday, you simply share the impact made in the lives of students through higher education. Your influence can change our future through the next generation of difference makers and compassionate Christian leaders.
Scholarship Sunday allows you to highlight programs and support available from your local church, from your Annual Conference/Conference Foundation, and from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. We have developed multiple online resources for you to share the power of a scholarship. Start with the Scholarship Sunday Resource Guide and take a look at: http://www.umcdevelopmentcenter.org/stories/scholarship-sunday
How can you make a difference? Talk to your church about establishing a Scholarship Sunday. Then give a gift and take advantage of local impact, through a national network. Give today through our Ministry of Scholarships!
