African University Campaign

Seven of the world’s fastest growing national economies are in Africa and, with twenty percent of the population between ages 15 and 24, it is the world’s youngest continent.  Growth is improving living standards and putting African on the cusp of sustainable, new development.  Appropriate investments in education are crucial to helping African nations exploit this tipping point.

In twenty years, Africa University is set apart by its values, relevance and impact.  It has earned an enviable reputation in African Higher Education.

The development of Africa University is a consequence of the growth of United Methodism in Africa. The growth in membership and the emerging socio-economic and political needs in their countries led the African bishops of the United Methodist Church (UMC) to call on their church to invest in higher education provision in Africa.

In 1988 the General Conference of United Methodist Church unanimously approved the founding of Africa University and made a commitment to provide financial support for the University from the general church budget, (US$2.5 million annually)

Africa University now stands poised to expand its reach and realize the fullness of its vision.

The Endowment Campaign is an opportunity to participate in defining how Africa University will help shape the future of the continent.  Every gift made to the endowment translates into changed lives and communities.
